Fezile hosted the 2005 Khomanani Day – caring together for life, the government partnership against HIV/AIDS, anchoring a five hour show and proving his ability to relate to people across all barriers.
He was also the MC and keynote speaker for the Matzikama HIV & AIDS Initiative on World Aids day in 2005. He visited communities and schools in the Vredendal area, one of the most severely affected by HIV/AIDS, and delivered a personal message that evening to over 1200 people.
“It was a rare privilege working with Fezile on our World HIV/AIDS day. He was mobbed by fans for autographs and it was a bit scary at times, but he was so patient, so warm, so approachable and absolutely charming. His talk in the evening, giving a personal account of the effect of HIV/AIDS on the family, when his sister and brother-in-law died of AIDS, had the crowd of over 1200 riveted. It had the desired effect. I am sure our communities totally get the message now – if a celebrity like the Fez is personally affected by this pandemic, anyone can be. From myself and the team, thank you so much for all the work and the awesome script.”
Antoinette Fouche. Manager Matzikamma HIV/AIDS initiative. Vredendal and districts.
