Cassette were nominated for 3 MTN SAMA’s (South African Music Awards) in 2007 including that for Best Group, and ended up taking the award for Best Rock Album with their debut album, Welcome Back To Earth. They have collaborated with local legends such as the Mahotella Queens, Zubz and Vusi Mahlasela and have opened for international artists such as Evanescence, Eagle Eye Cherry, Ronan Keating and many more. They have had 4 major national hits so far from their first album including Tracy, Beautiful Smile, Your Star and their current Top 40 smash hit, Sometimes (featuring the Mahotella Queens) – currently number 10 on the national Top 40. They have produced three music videos in the past year, two of which have occupied the number one spot on MK89’s music video charts, and all three have had national playlisting on television across the board. Their internet viral adverts for their music (and for the Cassette brand) have had more than 1 million international viewings online with three of these having been licensed by the BBC and German national TV for flighting in the UK and Europe.
Cassette are about to embark (August 20 – September 28) on their second world tour of 2007 which will include Tokyo and 6 countries in Europe and have been signed to record companies in 30 countries. Locally, they are signed to major record label, Sony BMG and have been labelled by Elle Magazine as “The most exciting rock band in South African by far.”
